Hawken Speech and Debate Team Earns School of Excellence Award
Congratulations to the members of Hawken’s Speech and Debate team for their excellent performance at the 2018 National Speech and Debate tournament held in Fort Lauderdale June 17 - 22.
Special congratulations go to Emma Sedlak ‘20 for finishing 9th in the final round of Congressional Debate - House. Her impressive finish automatically qualifies her for the 2019 tournament. Congratulations also to Brian Sun ’18 and Sauren Khosla ’18 for making it to round ten in Public Forum; to Zade Akras ’18 for making it to round eleven in Lincoln Douglas; to Samia Menon ‘19 for reaching semifinals in the House; to Esther Bedoyan ’18 on reaching the quarterfinals in Extemporaneous Speaking; and to Andrew Griffin ‘18 for reaching the triple octas in World Schools.
The Hawks’ stellar performance at the tournament placed Hawken in the top 20 debate teams in the nation and the team was presented a Debate School of Excellence Award.
