Sarah Smith ’92,senior director of education at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), has successfully secured a $100 million grant from the MacArthur Foundation for the Sesame Workshop & International Rescue Committee to provide early childhood education for Syrian refugees.
This week an email alert went out to Hawken Upper School faculty and staff from history/humanities teacher Katrina Hagen. It read, “Tri-C’s Mobile Innovation Lab is working with our Hum 10 Economy Intensive today. Don’t be alarmed if you see small drones flying around the Shiverick Commons between 12:30 and 2:30 or so!” Unusual for some schools, perhaps, but not for Hawken – particularly during Intensives.

On October 18th, a group of middle school students known as the “Energy Team” attended a youth leadership summit hosted by the Columbus-based Ohio Energy Project.
