THE POSITION:
Hawken School is seeking energetic and dedicated Junior Counselors (ages 15-20) for its Summer Day Camp program at the Lyndhurst and Gates Mills campuses. Our highly successful day camp offers a wide range of fun, educational activities for campers aged 4–13 (grades PK–8). Junior Counselors play an essential role in assisting Senior Counselors with ensuring that campers receive top-quality instruction and support, while fostering an atmosphere of safety, respect, and fun.
As a Junior Summer Camp Counselor, you will work closely with Senior Counselors to support campers in a variety of activities. You will assist in leading activities, ensure campers are engaged and safe, and serve as an integral part of the camp team. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain leadership experience and work with children in a fun, hands-on environment.
This is a full-time, seasonal position operating Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM during the six-week camp season (June 16 – July 25). A mandatory, paid orientation will be held on June 14 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
THE ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist Senior Counselors: Support Senior Counselors in planning and leading camp activities such as games, sports, arts & crafts, and outdoor adventures.

Camper Engagement: Help keep campers engaged and excited about their daily activities by offering encouragement, support, and enthusiasm.

Group Supervision: Assist with camper supervision during free time, meals, and structured activities, ensuring everyone follows camp rules and guidelines.

Lead Activities: Occasionally lead smaller group activities or assist in leading larger group activities under the guidance of Senior Counselors.

Provide Support: Be a helpful, friendly resource for campers, offering assistance when needed and ensuring that all campers are having fun and staying safe.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with other Junior and Senior Counselors to create a supportive, fun, and safe camp environment for all.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be:

Age Range: Must be at least 15 years of age.

Experience: Previous experience working with children (babysitting, coaching, volunteering, etc.) is preferred, but not required.

Skills: Positive attitude, good communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team.

Interest: A passion for working with kids, learning new skills, and creating a positive environment.

Energy & Enthusiasm: High energy and a willingness to take initiative and participate in camp activities.

Physical Requirements: Ability to engage in physical activities and be outdoors for extended periods of time.
