Fall Sports Highlights

Hawk spirit continues to soar as our athletics department concludes a very successful and exciting fall season. Note the following highlights and accomplishments in each sport:

The girls tennis team currently holds a #7 ranking in the State-wide Division II Coaches’ Poll. They played Chagrin Falls (#1 in state poll) to a virtual draw in the CVC tournament, and Chagrin Falls won the team title by criteria. Additionally, Surya Khadilkar ’12 won at first singles by beating a top area and previously unbeaten player; first doubles team Hannah Kerman ’11 /Sydney Davis ’11 and second doubles team Eve Kerman ’12 /Lindsay Greig ’12 took first place in their respective categories; and Taylor Johnson ’11 was runner-up at second singles.  Congratulations and best of luck to  Surya Khadilkar '12 and Taylor Johnson '11, who are headed to the state tournament this Friday!

The boys soccer team, also ranked #7 in the state (D-III), recently played undefeated Chagrin Falls (#4, D-II) to a 1-1 draw in a thrilling and well-played contest

The girls soccer team recently shutout big-school stalwarts Brunswick and Solon (both 0-0 ties) and notched important victories over area rivals Orange HS and Laurel.

Cross country runner Ally Markovich ’13 was recently named Plain Dealer Player of the Week. At the Cardinal HS Invitational, Ally broke her own school record and a course record with a time of 19:01. At the same meet, Adam Berry ’13 placed 4th with a time 17:35. Adam also owns first place finishes at the Beachwood Meet and the Hawken Meet.

Football player Jeremy Simmons ’12 is one of the top area rushers with 690 yards on 124 carries through week 6 – even though Jeremy has only played in 5 games.

The girls golf team placed fourth as a team at their sectional tournament, advancing to play at the district tournament in Canton.

The girls volleyball team posted a first-place finish at the Andrews-Osbourne Invitational and currently holds a season record of 8-7.

The boys golf team finished third in a very tough CVC tournament; Micah Simpson ’13 finished second overall with a 78.

The girls field hockey team has posted recent wins against Magnificat, Orange, Cleveland Heights, and Stow-Munroe Falls.
