Graduate Receives US Squash Award

Earlier this month, US Squash presented the 2013 W. Stewart Brauns, Jr. Award to Hamilton F. Biggar, III '66.
The Brauns Award is one of the most prestigious awards in American squash and is given annually to someone who has made major administrative, off-the-court contributions to the game of squash. The award presentation was made at the Cleveland Racquet Club.

As highlighted at the awards event, Ham Biggar's contributions to the game of squash have been many. Ham was the game's leading photographer in the 1980s, and created some of the most iconic images in US Squash history. With skill and patience, he photographed dozens of tournaments and hundreds of people around the country. His recent donation of his squash archives to US Squash makes this legacy permanent as it ensures future generations will know the power of the phrase "photo: Ham Biggar."

Ham served on the US Squash board for many years. He was the secretary for US Squash between 1982 and 1989, the longest tenure of any non-CEO administrator in US Squash century-long history. He also served as the assistant secretary for three years and was the chair of the ranking committee. He was the tournament director for the 1982 and 1983 North American Open and the 1984 U.S. nationals, all of which he hosted at his ground-breaking commercial club, the 13th Street Racquet Club in Cleveland, OH.

Off the court, Ham has literally has done it all: taking photographs, directing tournaments, creating and running a squash club and serving on numerous committees.  He is also a nationally-ranked doubles player who won numerous city, state and regional championships.

Congratulations for an honor well deserved!
